Despite the weather being a little wetter than normal, the Abergavenny Food Festival was hugely popular again this year, with Vin Sullivan presenting Duncan and Sue Lucas - Passionate About Fish who, along with our own fishmongers, gave demonstrations to the public on fish preparation and skills. We even cooked up some of the more sustainable fish species such as pollack, whiting and coley for people to try helping to promote responsible fishing, suggesting alternatives to the more traditional fish such as haddock and cod. The feedback was excellent from all who tried them!

British Fish Craft Championship 2011

With only 48 points between 1st and 3rd place in the overall championship, Jonny Jenkins came a close runner up to regaining the overall title of British Fish Craft Champion 2011, but did scoop up a host of prizes in the individual competitions, winning the first ever Tesco Sustainability Challenge, preparing various less used, but just as delicious, types of seafood for the table.

He was also runner up in the prestigious shellfish, poultry, and cod competitions

Our other entry this year, Scott Bright, did really well - stepping up from the smaller competition last year, to his first attempt with the main competitions this year – he knows what to expect from the very competitive field for next year!

We are again entering some of our best fishmongers in to the British Fish Craft Championships, organised by the National Federation of Fishmongers, at the Cardiff Harbour Festival in Cardiff Bay, 28th August 2011. Our fish manager, Jonny Jenkins, is hoping to better last year's fourth place overall, to regain his title as British Fish Craft Champion
